Soft tissue augmentation- also called dermal filler can help with a more youthful look. As we age, bone resorption and shrinkage and drooping of fat pads begin to occur, leaving an appearance of excess and sagging skin and/or wrinkles. By replacing volume in the skin, fullness and facial contour can be restored resulting in a more refreshed, softer and youthful appearance. Dermal fillers can also be used to create a more fuller and accentuated, defined lips. Volume replacement is most commonly performed using injectable filler such as hyaluronic acid (Juvederm®, Restylane®, Voluma®, Belotero®). The selection of filler is discussed at your appointment. What is the soft tissue augmentation/ dermal filler procedure like?
The procedure is performed in the office after a consultation appointment. At the consultation appointment, we will discuss your concerns and what we can do to address each concern. Prior to the procedure, your skin is thoroughly cleansed and sterilized. The area to be treated is typically prepped with a topical numbing agent prior to injection. The dermatologist then injects the dermal filler in the designated areas using a fine needle. Typically, the injections cause minimal discomfort.
Patients may experience some tenderness, swelling and/or bruising at the injection points immediately after the procedure. In most cases, the patient can return to their regular routine immediately.
