What is Kybella®?
Kybella® is a non-surgical method for getting rid of your double chin. The active ingredient in Kybella® is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, Kybella® results in destruction of fat cells and reduction of your double chin
What is the process like?
This procedure is performed in the office and usually takes less than 30 minutes. First the skin is cleansed thoroughly and either numbing gel or an ice pack is applied to the treatment site. The process of injecting Kybella® involves a thin needle, which means the pain felt during injections is comparable to a slight pinprick. Tingling sensation can also be felt during the treatment. Icing is performed immediately post-procedure to minimize discomfort.
Most patients treated with Kybella® experience visible contouring of their chin profile in 2-4 treatments, typically scheduled at least 4-6 weeks apart.
What is the downtime for using Kybella?
For most patients, downtime was minimal and occurred most commonly after the first treatment session. The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, and areas of hardness, numbness and redness in the treatment area. When scheduling your appointment, be mindful of your social and work commitments, as there can be noticeable swelling for 3-4 days after the procedure.
